Bar Harbor / Mt. Desert Island

Another one of our country’s colonies populated in the summer months by the super-affluent elite, Bar Harbor is in the Down East region of Maine. It is home to the Cadillac Mountain and the largest parts of Acadia National Park, reaching out for twenty-five miles of Eastern coastline. The town itself of Bar Harbor was first founded on the shoreline of Mount Desert Island, which were referred to as the “range of mountains” by the Wabanaki Indians. Popular recreational activities in Bar Harbor include hiking trails along the Acadia and carriage roads, biking paths, bird watching, and mountain climbing in view of the highest point on the Atlantic seaboard, the Cadillac Mountain. While the Mount Desert Island area, with its scattered lighthouses is home to puffins, whales, lobster, seals, and pelagic seabirds, and during the low tides tourists and locals alike look forward to shelling and uncovering what lies below the water's surface.
