Lake Huron is part of North America’s famous five Great Lakes. It is the second largest of the group with a surface area of 23,007 square miles and covers portions of Michigan in the United States and Ontario in Canada. The Northern Channel and Georgian Bay cover the lake’s northern parts, while in the southwest region is Saginaw Bay. St. Mary’s River is the primary inlet and St. Clair, the outlet. Lake Michigan and Lake Superior surpass Huron in volume, making it the third largest of the Great Lakes with 3,827 miles in length of shoreline and maximum depths of 750 feet. The largest city on Lake Huron is Sarnia, with several other decently sized cities in the area that include Saugeen Shores in Canada, Bay City, Port Huron, and Alpena. Other notable bodies of water include Georgian Bay, which protrudes northeast from the lake. There also several islands such as Manitoulin Island.
