Lake Superior Serving Tray

The largest of the North American Great Lakes is Lake Superior. It is surrounded by the US states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is shared with the Canadian province of Ontario. Superior drains into the St. Mary’s River and is the world’s largest freshwater lake by surface area and the third-largest freshwater lake by volume. The average elevation of the lake is 600 feet with Isle Royale in Michigan being the largest island in in Lake Superior. The other well-known islands in the area include that of Madeline Island is Wisconsin, Michipicoten Island in Ontario, and Grand Island in Michigan. The twin ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior in Wisconsin are among the biggest cities on Lake Superior; along with Thunder Bay in Ontario Marquette in Michigan, and the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario with Duluth-Superior on the St. Lawrence Seaway being the most inland port in the world. The most scenic spots along the lake include several national parks and recreation areas, such as Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Isle Royale National Park, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Pukaskwa National Park, Lake Superior Provincial Park, Grand Islands National Recreation Area, Sleeping Giant in Ontario, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
